確かにメアリ・チェイニーは"selfish hedonist"なのかも。
これを読んで初めて、メアリ・チェイニー（チェイニー副大統領の娘で、レズビアン）が本を出版してたことを知りました。しかしタイトルが"Now It's My Turn"っていうのは何かの冗談ですか。あれだけ選挙戦の間中黙りこくってパパの後ろで「いい娘」を演じて、ブッシュのアンチ・ゲイ・キャンペーンを後押ししてたくせに、今更何が"my turn"だバカ。ちなみに上の記事の中であたしが一番共感したのはこのあたり。
The declaration of her coming out as gay will never have her fired from a job or denied a promotion.試しにアメリカのアマゾンのカスタマーズレビューを覗いてみたら、この本、ボロクソに酷評されてます。"Poor Little Rich Spoiled Girl"とか、"it's just more spin with no empathy for GLBT lives."とか、"There should be negative stars in the rating system."とか。そりゃそうだよなー。

Sure, I understand loyalty to your family, and I can understand supporting your father as he runs for public office. But how can you be muted to the cause and to a man who couldn't take a stand to defend his own daughter from his boss's personal attacks and discriminatory agenda? メアリ・チェイニーはかつてゲイ嫌いの政治家に"selfish hedonist（利己的な快楽主義者）"呼ばわりをされたことがあるんですけれども、今になってみるとその発言は結構当たってたのかも。パパの権力と財力を維持するために（そして、自分もそれらを甘受するために）反ゲイ政策に加担しておいて、今さらLGBTの気を引こうと色気をしたんだとしたら、十分"selfish hedonist"でしょー。
余談ですがメアリ・チェイニーを"selfish hedonist"と罵ったのはAlan Keyes。メアリのみならず全ての同性愛者を"selfish hedonist"扱いして意気軒昂としてたんですが、その後自分の娘Maya Marcel-Keyes がレズビアンだとカミングアウトして大問題に。娘は19歳にして家を追い出され、大学の資金も打ち切られ、それでもゲイ・アクティビストとして頑張っているらしいです。あたしとしてはもうメアリ・チェイニーはどうでもいいから、こういう娘さんに政治家になって頑張って欲しいですね。
