オバマ大統領、同性婚支持を表明
米国のオバマ大統領が、ABCニュースのインタビューに対し、同性婚を支持する発言をしたそうです。

以下、大統領の発言をざっくり訳してみます。
「私のスタッフで、非常に献身的でモノガマスな関係、同性同士の関係のなかで一緒に子育てしている人たちや、また陸海空軍で私の代わりに戦い、Don't Ask Don't Tellがなくなった今でも結婚できない状態を強いられている人たちのことを考えて、何年も友人・家族・隣人たちと話をしてきました。結果として、ある時点で、先に進んで同性カップルの結婚を可能とするべきだと主張することが私にとって個人的に重要であるという結論に至りました。
”I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

It doesn’t make sense to them and frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”
モノガミー（1対1の関係）や献身を強調しているあたり、異性愛規範を捨てるかわりにまた別の規範をプッシュしているという印象はありますね。あと、「個人的に」という但し書きをつけているところもちょっと気になる感じ。それでも、もともと同性婚は支持せずシビルユニオン派だったはずのオバマ大統領がここまで発言するというのは驚きです。CNNによれば現職のアメリカ大統領がここまではっきりと同性婚支持を表明したのは初のことだそうで*1、その意味でも画期的だと思います。

なおCNNによると、5月8日にノースカロライナ州で同性婚を禁止する憲法が承認された件について、大統領は失望の意を表明しているとのことです*2。秋の大統領選で共和党の指名が確実視されているロムニー前マサチューセッツ州知事は同性婚反対派なので、このまま行くと同性婚をめぐって真っ向勝負になりそう。両陣営からどのようなレトリックが出てくるのか、今後とも目が離せません。
